The Eagerly anticipated street food pop-up event DEPOT Cardiff returns for a five week run on 1st May.
With summer fast approaching, I'm really excited to hear the build up to this years DEPOT events in Cardiff. I couldnt attend last years events due to work commitments, but kept being taunted of all the great goings on from friends who had gone, and posted how much fun they were having on the Internet. So this year I am absolutely determined to go, and ahead of the game with this years line up. No excuses!
Their summer schedule includes a month of weekend street-food pop-ups, two bank holiday ‘burger & beats’ events, and in a first for Cardiff, two dates of a ‘jacuzzi cinema’.
The shutters to DEPOT will reopen on May 1st, starting with a five-week run of Friday and Saturday evenings featuring pop up street-food, craft beer and cocktails, and music.
Running on an ever-changing rota, well-known local traders including Got Beef, Burger & Lobster, Dai’s Pies and Pizza Pronto will be joined by a host of new-to-Cardiff street food pop-ups, including;
Feastie Boys - known in Bristol for their sensational sandwiches featuring fillings like seared steak ragu with parmesan & pepper sauce
Onest Food – flying the flag for healthy food with their fabulous ‘flat egg’ omelettes; with fillings like pulled free-range chicken, kale pesto and sun-dried tomatoes
Little Bao Peep – dishing out authentic, Vietnamese steamed bao; Asian buns filled with spiced pork belly
Barn House Bistro – creating classic steak burgers on jalapeño cornbread served with mature cheddar, salad and sauce
Drunken Sailor – run by two local Cardiff food bloggers who’ll be serving up hearty hot dogs loaded with sensational toppings
Burger Theory – bringing their own brand of street food creativity to Cardiff, serving free-range, locally sourced burgers with globally inspired flavour twists

For the two bank holiday Sunday dates, a focus on ‘beats and burgers’ will celebrate the best in old-school hip hop and soul music alongside a line-up of flippin’ great burgers. The first one, on Sunday May 3rd will feature a three hour set from critically acclaimed hip-hop DJ, The Last Skeptik, along with skate ramps, entertainers, and an opportunity to try out some graffiti art in the newly opened, DEPOT beer garden.
There will also be a fully licensed bar – double the size of last year – running at every single DEPOT event, serving up a range of craft beers and bespoke cocktails.
In June and July, film fans will have something else to look forward to; in the form of Cardiff’s first ever ‘jacuzzi cinema’ event. This will see the industrial warehouse filled with inflatable hot-tubs; each one available to hire for groups of up to 8 people. The event is being created with the help of another local pop-up sensation, Motley Movies.
Those who visited in the winter will be pleased to know that the whole space is also being re-imagined by the DEPOT design team, who have plenty of surprises in store for returning visitors following a hefty refurbishment.
Nick Saunders, founder of DEPOT said “We’re really excited to be bringing in a handful of traders from further afield for the first time, showcasing them alongside some of our established Cardiff pop-up favourites. DEPOT is not just about street food though, and our collaboration with Motley Movies later in the summer will be unlike anything Cardiff has seen before – we can’t wait!”
