I had never heard of Fudges Bakery before, which is a shame as they are Britain's first family bakers, based in Dorset and have been going since 1926. I'm a big fan of British products, especially ones with a long heritage, it feels sort of sentimental to buy a well established British product. So when I had the chance to review some of their family favourites I was very keen! not only because I love biscuits (who doesn't?!) but also because I was intrigued by the range they had on offer.
My boyfriend was quite excited when a big box of biscuits came through the door and had started tucking in already. The packaging is really nice so I guess I can't blame him as they look pretty good.
Our favourite of the bunch had to be the flapjacks. My boyfriend commutes and likes to take plenty of snacks to work and they were perfect for this. If you like chewy flapjacks (they've added the increasingly popular agave to them which makes them moist and chewy) and smooth dark chocolate (I'm usually a fan of milk but these were really good, not bitter at all) then these are for you! At £2.99 for 8 decent sized flapjacks they're a great lunch box option.
Next were the Mature Cheddar Cheese straws, they also come in Mature Cheddar and black pepper. These were light and crunchy with a nice hint of cheddar cheese; not overpowering and they didn't taste 'plastic' like some cheese products do. I'd recommend these for nibbles with guests or even a treat for yourself. They come at a modest £1.65 for Mature Cheddar and £1.99 for Mature Cheddar and black pepper which I think is good value for what you get.
Finally there were the Marmite biscuits. Now as they say you either love it or hate it and at first bite I wasn't too sure. I like the fact you can tell they're baked with wholemeal and malt flour as they taste more wholesome this way. My boyfriend liked them on their own as he is a big Marmite fan but I preferred them as a biscuit with cheese. They look so cute on a chessboard! You can get the Marmite biscuits for £2.35 which again is a reasonable price for the amount and quality you get.
Overall I was really impressed with Fudges biscuits and will look out for them next time I'm in the supermarket. They have lots of other delicious looking biscuits in their range which you can see at http://www.fudges.co.uk/
